Windows 95/98/ME computers:

1. Double click My Computer
2. Open Dial-Up Networking
3. RIGHT click on PVNS -  left click on Properties.
4. Click on Configure then the Options tab. If either of the two boxes under Connection Control is checked, remove the check and click OK.
5. Click the Scripting tab. Make sure the Script File Name area is blank. If it is not, delete all information in the File Name box.
6. Click on Server Types (Networking on ME computers). Under the heading Advanced Options: make sure Enable software compression is the only one checked. Under the heading Allowed Network protocols make sure TCP/IP is the ONLY one checked.
7. Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.  Server assigned IP address should be selected. Specify name server addresses should be selected only if you need to use the DNS #s below. We recommend that you skip step 8 and select server assigned name server addresses and not bother with the DNS numbers.
8.If you do use DNS #s -  the Primary DNS: should read 209.208.52.18 the Secondary DNS: should read 209.208.42.132 Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network should both be checked.
9. Click OK until you are back to the Dial-Up Networking window.
10. Close the Dial-Up Networking window.

Before you continue with this step, locate your Windows 95 or 98 CD and have it handy.
1. Click Start, go to Settings, then click on the Control Panel.
2. Open the Network icon.
3. Check the Installed Components list. (For single non-networked computers) Remove all references to AOL, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, and Virtual Private Networking. Note: If your computer is Networked to other computers, check with your Network Administrator before removing any of the installed components. 
4.Click OK and answer "yes" to the restart prompt. 

Windows NT

1. Double click My Computer
2. Double click Dial-up Networking
3. Under Phonebook entry to dial: select PVNS
4. Click More
5. Click Edit Entry & Modem Properties
6. Click Server
7. Click TCP/IP Settings
8.The Primary DNS  should be 209.208.52.18 and the Secondary DNS should be 209.208.42.132
9. Click OK twice
10 Click Close

Windows 2000

1. Open My Network Places
2. Click Network & Dial-up Connections
3. RIGHT click on the PVNS.Net icon then left click Properties
4. Click the Networking tab. Make sure Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked
5. Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
6. Obtain an IP address automatically should be selected
7. Use the following DNS server addresses should be selected
The Preferred DNS server is  209.208.52.18 and the Alternate DNS server is 209.208.42.132
8. Click OK twice
9. Close the Network and Dial-up Connections window.

Windows XP

1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Show all connections
2. Highlight the PVNS connection
3. Click Change settings of this connection under Network Tasks
4. Click the Networking tab in the PVNS Net Properties window
5. Highlight Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] then click Properties
6. Verify that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected
7. Verify that obtain DNS server address automatically is selected
8. Click OK twice to save any changes.

Windows 3.1 & 3.11

1. Double click the PVNS.Net dialer
2. Click Properties
3. Click Service Provider
4. The Primary DNS should be 209.208.52.18, the Secondary DNS should be 209.208.42.132
5. The Service Provider Domain Name should be blank
6. Click OK

How to check mail servers

· Launch Outlook Express

· Select identity
· Click on Add New Identity
· Enter the name of the user
· Outlook Express asks you if you want to log on as the new user.
· Click yes
· Click on Create a new internet mail account.
· Enter in Name
· Type in appropriate email address -
· Name of the incoming mail server is POP3
· Incoming mail is pop3.pvns.net
· Outgoing mail is smtp.pvns.net
· Type in Account Name: The part of your e-mail address before the @ 
· Type in Password:
· Click finish

How to switch between email accounts/identities

· Launch Outlook Express
· Click on File
· Switch identity
· Select required account
· Enter password
· Click Ok

Getting disconnected when trying to send or receive mail

· Open Outlook Express
· Select Tools
· Select Options
· Select Connection
· Uncheck the option which says "Hang up after sending and receiving"
· Select ok

Server does not support SSL connection

· Open Outlook Express
· Select tools
· Accounts
· Mail
· Properties
· Server
· Log on using secure password authorization and my server requires authentication needs should not be checked
· Select Advanced
· Make sure the option "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" in not selected. In both the incoming and outgoing mail section.

Prompt to Disconnect

· My Computer
· Control Panel
· Internet options
· Connection
· Double click on PVNS
· Select Advanced
· Make sure " Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed" is not checked.
· Select OK

A Prompt keeps coming up to connect when you are working on the computer.

· My Computer

· Select never dial a connection
· Select OK

How to set PVNS.NET as you default webpage

· Click on Start
· Select Settings
· Select Control Panel
· Click on Internet Options
· Select General
· In the address box type in the following   http://www.pvns.net
· Select ok

When trying to connect it asks for the VPN server

· My computer
· Control Panel
· Add/Remove Programs
· Windows Setup
· Double click into Communications
· Uncheck Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Dial Up Server
