COMPUTER SETTING MAIL RULES If you have more than one e-mail account and want mail separated to different folders, then you need to set up mail rules. These rules are useful for many things such as blocking out mail with certain words etc. I’ll show you how to separate your e-mail accounts and you can see how the rules work. Click TOOLS slide
down to Message Rules and Click MAIL You will
see the New Mail Rule window. In the top window look at the selections. There are many things you can do with message rules. One
popular thing is to forward mail. One example is
- if you want your e-mail going to 2 different addresses, say, home and
work. Do as above except in the lower window CHECK “Forward
to People” and click People, then type the e-mail
address you want to forward to. As you can see, there are many things you can do
here.
SET UP NEWS GROUPS Outlook Express is also a news reader and we supply you
with the Newsgroups. To access Newsgroups. Go to TOOLS then
slide down the drop down menu and Click ACCOUNTS. Then
Click the NEWS tab. Then the ADD
button. Then NEWS. Then type your name. (You
might consider using a fictitious or nickname here) Then NEXT.
Your e-mail address elvis@pvns.net Then NEXT.
Then type news.pvns.net in for the news
server.Then NEXT then FINISH.
Then CLOSE. Outlook will then ask if you want to
download newsgroups. This will take a while as there are thousands of them. You may
want to do it later. Have fun with newsgroups but be aware they can be pretty bad.
Please don't let children have un-restricted access to newsgroups.
PROBLEMS e-mail causing disconnects If you are experiencing disconnects from the Internet when surfing or sending and receiving e-mail, try this. Open Outlook Express - click TOOLS click OPTIONS click CONNECTIONS The little white box by "Ask before switching dial up connections" should be CHECKED. The other box "Hang up after sending and receiving mail" should be UN-CHECKED. |
